When summer turned to fall, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Nana Banana and Sport. Because we were still living in the apartment, we could not host them as much as we might want to. However, the Chrismans were out of town and let them stay at their place. This also meant that we had a good excuse to make more excursions to some of Kentucky's finest eating establishments. That includes Wallace Station out on Old Frankfort Pike.
The drive out to Wallace Station takes you by all sorts of horse farms, so it is a beautiful trip. And we were lucky on that day to have great weather as well, so we waited in line, ordered some good food, and headed out to their back patio. As you can see from what the girls are wearing in this picture, we had something else planned for that afternoon.
Both of the girls had soccer games that day, so Nana Banana and Sport were able to see them in action. They don't get to see Callie and Reese play as often as they would like, so it was actually one of their reasons for making the trip at this time of year.
Of course it didn't hurt that October in Lexington also means horse racing at Keeneland. So after going to church we changed clothes and headed out to the track to see if we could show off some horse knowledge. We once again had some great weather, which made the experience that much better.
The whole crew bet on each race that took place, and Sport was happy to finance his granddaughters' handicapping. The good thing is we were pretty much guaranteed to have at least one winner in each race because our respective choices were based on such finely tuned strategies like name, color, number, or jockey. Pictured here, however, was our own little trifecta in that all three had a winning ticket in the same race.
Now if you have ever been to Keeneland or any other race track, you will know that there is some down time between races. Fortunately, we don't have too much difficulty finding ways to occupy our time. In this case Callie and Reese decided to clean John's eyeballs. It was one more fun thing to do while Nana Banana and Sport were in town.
