Our first big event after moving back into our house was Halloween. And even though we were not close to being unpacked, we were in good shape because the girls' costumes were an extension of the variety show and preparation for the winter chorus concert. So Reese was a rockstar instead of a '70s girl, and Callie was a '50s girl, which we soon found out was a very popular costume among her classmates and their parents. Everyone was happy to double dip.
It's always tough to get them to pose for pictures when they know that oodles of candy is literally right around the corner, but they know the price they have to pay in order to make it all happen. And they do enjoy taking pictures in and around the cool tree in our front yard.
We had a great crew this year. Not only were the Prestons able to join us for the third straight year, but we also had Emma Jane and her parents along for the ride. As already noted, you can see that Emma Jane is also a '50s girl, while Harper and Kennedy stayed true to form with creative and elaborate costumes. One day we are going to take advantage of Laurie Preston's make-up artistry, but it wasn't going to be this year.
Our neighborhood is phenomenal in that as the girls walk from door to door they know half the kids who are doing the same. The night is certainly about candy, but it also becomes a time for them to see their friends and for parents to hang out and talk. Who knew that Halloween could be such a social event to bring people together? The candy part certainly helps, though, doesn't it.
